We listened to kids with learning differences like LD and ADHD who’ve taken our programs before. They told us what worked, what didn’t — and we built this program around their voices. That means these aren’t school classes — they’re creative labs where there’s:

Key Program Details

For children ages 6-16 with LDs, ADHD, or mild autism

Delivered online through Zoom

Each program runs for 8 weeks

One 45-minute session per week at 6 or 7 PM

3 enrollment periods each year, 20 seats per period

STEAM Explorers prepares your child to handle them by introducing a variety of themes and working on specific social skills like speaking, listening, and reflecting. It simulates the way real conversations work, but progresses at a pace that never leaves your child feeling overwhelmed – while introducing concepts in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics through fun and engaging activities.

STEAM Explorers is designed to nurture specific social skills, like:

Speaking with confidence.

Help your child overcome shyness and stay composed through social slip-ups.

Reflecting on new ideas.

Show them how the first thought that comes to mind isn’t always the right one.

Being empathetic.

Teach them how to be considerate of other people’s feelings and perspectives.

Recognizing social cues.

Introduce your child to key social signals like body language and tone of voice.

During the peak of COVID in 2020, like most parents I was struggling to find activities for my boys and even more so for my son. I came across the website for The Montreal Center for Learning Disabilities and a new program they were creating given the circumstances, called Cyber K.I.D.S.

I figured we had nothing to lose by trying it out and it was one of the best decisions we’ve made for social networking for him.

Cyber K.I.D.S has become a weekly event in our home and my son is always ready and motivated for each session. We have participated in every session since the first one in 2020 and there are familiar faces and new friends each time. The staff is awesome to say the least. They are motivated, energetic, prepared and always have fun facts to share and you can hear how engaged the kids are. The counsellors are very committed and the kids get the chance to thank them at an in-person event at the end of almost every session.

Cyber K.I.D.S is a place for my son to hang out with friends on a school night where he feels completely accepted by everyone in the group. As a parent, I am very grateful to the team for creating this social space that allows my son to develop and practice his social skills.

Christopher Simeone

Having graduated from Vanier College’s Special Care Counselling program, as well as McGill’s Inclusive Education program, Chris is a behaviour specialist with a focus on special needs. He believes that everyone is capable of achieving as long as they are given the tools they need.

Initially diagnosed with a speech disorder at the age of 3, and later diagnosed with a Specific Learning Disability at age 7, Chris struggled with school and social interactions.

Growing up, he made it his mission to show and teach others about empathy and understanding, as he knows the struggles someone can experience both emotionally and socially.  Chris has been active in the field of special education since 2009. He’s currently a Special Ed Technician for the English Montreal School Board, a Learning Facilitator for Special Olympics Quebec, and coordinator of the NDG Lions Special Olympics soccer program.

Traditional classroom-style instruction?
For kids, it’s boring — and ineffective.

You won’t find any of that here. Instead, your child will experience sessions that feel varied and interesting even though they follow a consistent structure. Here’s what that looks like:

Initiating conversation through show and tell
Introducing the theme
Exploring the theme through activities
Encouraging reflection and learning through social time
Winding down by introducing next week’s theme and activity

A few more helpful details.

Do I need to be from Montreal to enroll?

Nope! The STEAM Explorers is open to children throughout Quebec, not just in Montreal.

8-16 is quite a large age range. How does that work?

We interview parents before their kids join to ensure the program is right for them. If needed, we then create up to 4 different groups based on similar ages, interests, and needs.

What will my role be as a parent?

Once your child has successfully enrolled, you’ll receive a complete 8-week program schedule. That schedule will include session breakdowns and full instructions on how to prepare your child for each weekly session.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Spots to this program are limited so we encourage you to commit to our program as best you can, but we understand that cancellations may happen. As soon as you make us aware of your need to withdraw your child from the program, you will be reimbursed for the cost of the remaining sessions in the season.
